MTV’s VMA’s| The good, the bad and the ugly

Last night was a huge night for celebrities, press and fashion lovers everywhere. Not only was it Fashion Night Out, it was also the MTV Video Music Awards, which is always eventful. This year saw the reunion of Rihanna and Chris Brown, with them sharing a little kiss in front of all to see. However it is not the show that I am interested in, my guilty pleasure with award shows, which I guess I share with many of you, is to cast my critical eye upon the fashion on the red carpet. So I will share with you my pick of the good, the bad and the ugly.
the good
  • Emma Watson did us British girls proud, and showed up in a fun and flirty dress. Although the loud print is not something I would wear, I admire that she let the dress do the talking and kept accessories, hair and makeup to a minimal.
  • Demi Lovato was my favourite, she dressed down this sparkly cocktail dress with her studded leather jacket, but her dramatic red lips and long tumbling waves make her look smart enough to be walking the red carpet.
  • Miley Cyrus dressed to impress! Like Demi Lovato she channelled her inner rock chick. Miley's dress alone is beautiful, but her chose of accessories, and her dramatic quiff have made the dress more fun.
  • Katy Perry’s dress hugs her curves and gives us a glimpse of her legs, making her look like a vixen. I’m not one hundred per cent certain of the print, but no one can deny that she looks incredibly sexy. I think I am most in love with her hair and makeup choices, very glamourous.
the bad
  • Jessica Szohr’s outfit just looks a mess. I don’t really know where to begin, so I shall just say it all. In my opinion her top looks like it’s a piece of supportive shape-wear, the skirt it too casual, as are the trainers, and the headband is just wrong. This is not a red carpet suitable outfit.
  • Rihanna is a girl who’s outfits I either love of hate, and unfortunately I hate this one. If the dress did not have the knot detail on the front I think I would love it, but as it does Rihanna looks like she is wearing her bed sheet and is on her way to a toga party.
  • Rita Ora… oh dear! I admit the detailing on the jumpsuit is exquisite, but it is not flattering in the slightest. The girl has such a great body, she should be making the most of it.
  • Pink really disappointed me in this dress. Like Rita Ora she has an amazing body and yet she has covered every inch of it. I do actually love the dress; if only it showed more skin.
Nicki Minaj
I know Nikki Minaj is an obviously choice for a girl who gets it wrong, but she just can’t be avoided.  I agree her body is ridiculous… even if her bum does scare me a bit, but there is no need to show it off all the time. There is not one thing right with her ensemble, too tight, too many fabrics and textures and too much detail.
Do you agree with my picks? Or was there someone else who caught your eye? Let me know what you think!

Grammy Awards vs Bafta Awards- US vs UK- The Good, Bad and Awful

Two award shows in one night, weren't we spoilt! Two great shows, and two great red carpet fashion parades. I am going to share with you my good, bad and ugly for each of the awards. Personally after looking through hundreds of pictures of both award shows I think the fashion in both has been outstanding. The dresses at the Baftas were beautiful, I actually struggled to find dresses I didn't like.

The Good- Bafta Awards
Penelope Cruz Looked stunning in this simple dress.
Michelle Williams really stood out for me, the dress is  simple but the monochrome colours give  it an edge. I love the Book clutch bag also.
Melissa George- This Victoria Beckham dress is right on trend at the moment, a lot of sparkly dresses have been worn on the Red Carpet this season. I love the pop of colour with her lipstick, a really sexy look.

The Good- Grammy Awards

Adele had to be mentioned. This girl is all over the headlines today. She looks amazing in this dress, her recent weight-loss and her change hair style have transformed her into a classic sex siren. She looks Sexy, classy and beautiful
Finally Kelly Osbourne is not on the worst dressed list. She has finally chosen a dress that is fun, young and flirty, much more age appropriate.
Carrie Underwood is a show topper in this gorgeous backless gown. Again a sparkly number. The monochrome, because of the black clutch really make this outfit stand out.

The Bad- Bafta Awards
I don't like the length of Hayley Atwell's dress, its not three quarter length and nor is it full length, its in-between.
I don't know what to say about this apart from its a bit of a mess. Octavia Spencer even looks miserable about wearing it.
Christina Ricci looks like she is wearing a tinfoil dress, it looks cheap to me.
The Bad- Grammy Awards
Oh dear! Yes Fergie you have a lovely figure, but we don't need to see it right now, not appropriate at all.
Aww poor Jessie, she made a real effort to dress up and then she looks like she is wrapped in tinfoil also. This dress does not flatter her, she looks way bigger than what she is.
Sasha Gradiva- What is this! just why? Why the gun? Otherwise it would be a pretty dress.

The Awful- Bafta Awards
I can see what Edith Boweman was trying to do, the vintage dress, paired with the gloves (similar to Sarah Jessica Parker) However I don't think she's pulled it off, and looks quite frumpy.
The Awful- Grammy Awards

Nicki Minaj- Oh Dear! She is like Lady Gaga, as in they are both not able to just wear a dress, they have to wear a costume and make a statement. In my opinion, yes they attract column inches, but please keep costumes for the stage, not formal events.

Who was your best dressed of the night? Anyone a step above anyone else? Who was your least favourite?

The UK vs The States (NTA vs SAG awards)The Good, Bad and Awful

So last week and this weekend we had two award shows, one in the UK and one in the US. The UK awards in my honest opinion are never as glamourous as American awards... more reality TV stars than movie stars!
So I am going to present to you my round up of the 3 best and 3 worst dressed at both award shows, the SAG awards and the NTA's;

The Good- UK- NTA
Roaring Twenties: Fearne Cotton wore a vintage fringed dress with red heels that matched her lipsPink ladies: Michelle Keegan and Michelle Collins also chose the evening's most popular colourBack to black: Heidi Range

Fearne Cotton- Different from others, opting for a shorter style dress, however the embellishment and classic hair and makeup make this dress formal enough for the event.
Heidi Range- A very simple dress, but she wears it very well, she just screams sexy.
Michelle Keegan- A pretty obvious choice, however she always looks glamourous and amazing at red carpet events. Overall a very simple dress, accessories, hair and makeup but the embellishment make it a standout piece. I love it!

The Good-US-SAG Awards
Seductive: Lea's one-shoulder dress featured a daring slit up to the thighGoing against the grain: Kaley Cuoco stepped out in a silk organza gown by Romona Keveza while Natalie Portman decided not to walk the red carpet Black and white: The Good Wife star Julianna Margulies donned glittering white Paz Vega opted for monochrome while Jayma Mays dressed in black covered in sequins

Lea Michelle- Wow she is impressing me at the moment. Showing her sexy side in this gorgeous dress.
Natalie Portman- A simple dress, but perfection! She looks lovely.
Jayma Mays (from glee)- Such a show stopping dress, I love the embellishment... looks like this tend is very popular at the moment.

The Bad- UK- NTA
Birds of a feather: Tulisa stood out in a hot pink feathered numberEssex spin on black tie: Chloe Sims brought her personal brand of formal wear to the NTAs in a red 'mullet' dress that featured a short hemline at the front and full-length skirt at the back and sidesEssex glamour: Jessica Wright went for a Kate Middleton meets TOWIE dress in a full length backless lace gown, while Lauren Goodger wore a tight silver gown with a plunging neckline

Chloe Sims- I'm normally a fan of mullet style dresses, but Chloe looks like she attatched the train of this dress herself, it looks poorly made and cheap.
Lauren Goodger- I am a fan of Lauren, however she does not dress well for her curvy frame. This dress does not flatter her in the slightest.
Tulisa- Definitely a talking point and a fun dress, however I think it is more suitable to a sixteenth birthday party, not a red carpet event.

The Bad- US-SAG Awards
Feeling moody: Glee stars Heather Morris, Amber Riley, who went for bows and lace in Badgley Mischka, Ashley Fink and Lauren Potter all opted for the dark colour Looking all white: Zoe SaldanaFeeling moody: Glee stars Heather Morris, Amber Riley, who went for bows and lace in Badgley Mischka, Ashley Fink and Lauren Potter all opted for the dark colour

Heather Morris- Trying to sport the mullet style dress, however I don't believe she has managed to pull it off. This dress has too much going on at the same time.
Zoe Saldana- I am not keen on this dress at all. I know it's vintage, however to me it looks like she is wearing a white tank top underneath the top part of the dress.
Amber Riley- She looks like a present waiting to be unwrapped because of the gigantic bow... not a good look.

And the Awful

Karen Gillian- She looks like she is waiting for a bus into town. This outfit  is not appropriate for a red carpet at all. I wish people would stick to dress codes. It would of been lovely to see her glammed up for a change.

What do you think about British award season fashion versus the states? Who were you favourtie dressed stars for the night?

Who hit gold, who didn't- Award season, the Golden Globes

Oh I love this time of the year..I get really excited about award season. I have always said that if I was to have a job on television it would be to present E! at the Red Carpet, I just love looking at what everyone is wearing, who rocks, and who shocks!

So this year there was a standout colour and that was white, everyone was sporting white dress, and bridal inspired gowns. here is my personal opinion on the best and the worst of the night.

The Good

Marvellous in metallic: Jessica Alba swapped the embellished Gucci gown she wore to the Globes ceremony for a metallic strapless knee-length number for the afterparty
Jessica Alba in Gucci
A beautiful, elegant dress. A simple cut and colour but the embellishment makes it perfect.
Wrapped up: Lea Michele wore an embroidered silver dress by Marchesa
Lea Michele in Marchesa
A true Red carpect dress. Perfect for her figure and a real stand out
Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace
Again a simple colour and cut, yet the added red colour with the matching clutch an lipstick, makes this look stand out.

Emma Stone
Emma Stone in LanvinA fun dress, great colour on Emma's complexion
The Bad
Mind you don't pop out! Bridesmaids star Wendi McLendon-Covey struggled to contain her cleavage in a low-cut emerald dress as she stopped for photos at the viewing party
Bridesmaid star Wendi Mclendon-Covey
The dress seems to have no shape and looks like a bag, and is just hanging off the actress.  Not a flattering look.
Madonna
Madonna in Reem Acra
I beleive the top and bottom sections of this dress are nice, but they do not work together. The cut of the dress does not flatter Madonna's muscular frame, and it looks too tight on her chest.
 Zooey Deschanel
Zooey Deschanel in Prada
I just dislike the lime green on this dress, I don't think this dress is Red Carpet enough.
Kelly Osbourne
Kelly Osbourne in Zac PosenKelly looks like the dress in wearing her, her petite frame is swamped. For such a younger star I believe she should be showing more flesh in a more fun dress.

And the Ugly (Awful)
Shredded and salacious: Model Erin Wasson wore next to nothing as she demanded attention on the red carpet at the InStyle Golden Globes after party last night
Model Erin Wasson
Just plain awful! She looks like a stripper!

Who's dress do you like the best? Any other stars who stood out for you?

The Versatile Blogger Award

I woke up this morning with a huge smile on my face, as I have been nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award (my first award of any type, so super happy). It also makes it more special due to the fact I have only been writing this blog for a month, so to be admired and recognized this early on means a lot. Thanks

I was nominated by the lovely Natalie. Please check out her blog, she is a beautiful girl who does great reviews!

The Rules for this award are super simple:
1. Thank the person who nominated you and give them a shout out on your blog with a link to their blog.
2. Share 7 random facts about yourself.
3. Send on the award to 15 other bloggers whose blogs that you appreciate and then let them know that they have won the award.

So here are the 7 random facts about me:

  1. I laugh way too much! I literally laugh when happy, nervous, excited, anything, but then a lot of the time I can't stop and end up in tears.
  2. I love animals. My mother used to work at an animal refuge, so a lot of the animals needed 24 hour care, meaning they would come home with her. So my house has always been full of many types of animals, such as baby hedgehogs, blind cats, reptiles, birds, 3 legged cats, and my favourite; a sheep (who used to think it was a dog, so would play fetch etc, and run around with my other dogs)
  3. I lived in France for half of this year, and it was the best time of my life. It had always been a dream of mine to live in France, so to actually do it was amazing!
  4. I am obsessed with France. I love all things French, and think I should of been born there.
  5. I speak 4 languages (some not very well, but I can understand them) English, French, Italian and Spanish.
  6. Christmas is my favourite time of year! I turn into an excitable child. I have had my decorations up since the 1st of December, and started my Christmas shopping in October.
  7. I have a very large family. Which is made even larger and more complicated due to my parents multiple marriages and divorces.
I nominate:

Thank-you again. I hope you learnt a bit more about me via my random facts.

A couple of days late, I know, but I still would like to share my opinion.

Victoria Beckham

Firstly a huge congratulations to Victoria Beckham. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I have a huge love and admiration for the woman, so I was over the moon when I heard she won Designer Brand of the Year. After all her hard work, she has finally solidified her place in the fashion world. I think it was great to see, a rare moment of emotion from her as well, which shows just how much this award meant to her. Watch the Video Below;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygHsHFA9Y08

Sarah Burton

The designer of the year was obviously going to be Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, there was no questioning that. I mean she does deserve it after designing the dress of the year, however it would of been interesting to see who would of won if there had not been the Royal Wedding.

Alexa Chung

For the British Style Award, I was disappointed to see Alexa Chung win it. I am not saying she is not stylish, She is incredibly stylish, and a great muse, you only have to look at Mulberry for that. However she won the award last year, she always dresses the same, and never really pushes the boundaries of style, and I feel a bit over her really. It would be nice to see someone else being the "it" girl for a change. There was a lot of up-roar from the press, saying that Kate Middleton deserved to win the award after all she has frequented the pages of "Best Dressed" far more than Alexa Chung has this year.

What does everyone think? Who would you have picked for your winners?
